The Senegalese government refuses to withdraw the title of Alkan
The Senegalese government has brought the 2025 Africa Cup file to an open political and legal level, following its announcement on Wednesday of its rejection of the decision of the Appeals Committee of the Confederation of African Football to withdraw the title from its national team and award it to Morocco.
The Senegalese government considered that the decision “affects the essence of sporting integrity and undermines the credibility of continental institutions.”
An official statement issued by the government in Dakar said that this decision is “unprecedented and dangerous, and contradicts the principles of justice, fairness, and respect for field results.” The statement considered that the decision is based on an incorrect interpretation of the regulations, which makes it “clearly illegal and fundamentally unfair.”
The statement indicated that “the final match took place according to the approved rules and ended with a decided result on the field, and that questioning this result harms the confidence of the African fans in sports bodies.” The Senegalese authorities also stressed their rejection of “any attempt to deprive the national team of its title through an administrative decision.”
Dakar called for the opening of an independent international investigation into “suspicions of corruption within the structures of the Confederation of African Football,” stressing that it will resort to all available legal paths, including international judicial bodies, “to ensure that the sporting result is restored.”
On Tuesday evening, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Sanctions Appeals Committee announced the defeat of the Senegalese national team by withdrawing from the final match of the African Cup of Nations “Morocco 2025”, in accordance with Article 84 of the tournament regulations, and thus the Moroccan team won 3-0.
This decision came after considering the Royal Moroccan Football Federation’s appeal regarding the application of Articles 82 and 84 of the continental championship regulations, where the committee concluded to accept the appeal in form and substance, and to cancel the previous decision issued by the CAF Disciplinary Committee.
The committee also considered that the conduct of the Senegalese national team falls within violations of Articles 82 and 84, and that the Senegalese Football Federation violated Article 82 of the regulations through the actions of its national team, so that the Moroccan national team was officially declared the winner after Senegal withdrew from the “CAN Final,” while rejecting all other demands presented.
