Betis club backs down from keeping Amrabat
Moroccan international Sofiane Amrabat received a new blow to his professional career after the Spanish Real Betis management backed down from the idea of permanently purchasing his contract from the Turkish club Fenerbahce, following the severe injury he suffered during the current season.
According to media reports, most notably the Turkish “Mynet” website, Amrabat’s long absence from the stadiums due to injury prompted Betis officials to retract the decision to buy his contract, so that the file was closed permanently pending the end of his loan period with the team.
Amrabat had a promising start with Betis, as he quickly adapted to the atmosphere of the Spanish League and presented good levels that made the club’s management consider activating the clause to buy his contract permanently. However, the severe injury he suffered in the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco tipped the scales and changed the calculations of the Andalusian club.
The Fenerbahce midfielder had moved to the Andalusian team during the last summer transfer period on loan, in a move that aimed to restore his best levels in the Spanish League, after the Turkish club entered a restructuring phase that included a number of names within the team.
During the current season, Amrabat played 11 official matches for Real Betis without succeeding in scoring or assisting any goal, before the injury kept him out of competition for a long period.
It is expected that the Moroccan international will return to his team, Fenerbahce, at the end of the current season, especially since his contract with the Turkish club extends until 2028, at a time when the player’s future remains open to several possibilities during the upcoming summer transfer period.
