Saint-Germain puts one foot forward in the quarter-finals
Paris Saint-Germain, the French champion, put one foot forward in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, beating English host Chelsea 5-2 on Wednesday in the first leg of the 16-final.
European champion Bradley Barkola (10), Ousmane Dembélé (40), Portuguese Vitinha (74), and Georgian substitute Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (86 and 90+4) scored for the champion, while Frenchman Malo Gusteau (28) and Argentine Ensu Fernandes (57) scored the goals for the English guest.
Saint-Germain took revenge for its loss to Chelsea in particular in the Club World Cup final 0-3 in the United States in July.
The Spanish coach of the Parisian team, Luis Enrique, included Dembele, Portuguese Joao Neves, and Brazilian captain Marquinhos in the starting lineup after their absence from the last match against Monaco in the league (1-3).
