Benchikha is the new coach of Ittihad Tangier
Ittihad Tangier Football Club announced today, Wednesday, that it has signed a contract with Algerian coach Abdelhak Benchikha to take over the task of coaching the first team, with a contract extending for one and a half seasons.
The “Fares Al-Boughaz” club announced, in a press release on the occasion, that this contract came “as part of the club’s endeavor to strengthen the technical team and lead the team during the next stage.”
Coach Abdelhak Benchikha will be accompanied in his duties by Serge Romano, who will assume the position of assistant coach within the technical staff of the first team.
The Algerian coach previously supervised the training of Ittihad Tangier for two seasons (2015-2017). He is also considered one of the coaches familiar with Moroccan football, as he previously coached the clubs Raja, Difaa Hassani El Jadidi, Nahdet Berkane, Moghreb Tetouan, and Mouloudia Oujda.
On Tuesday evening, Ittihad Tangier Club announced the termination of the duties of former Spanish coach José Mel Perez as coach of the first team, stressing that the decision comes “within the framework of restructuring the club’s technical management during the next stage.”
The Tangier Union appointed José Mel Perez to the position of general sports supervisor for the club, where he will assume the tasks of “follow-up and general technical supervision, in a way that contributes to supporting the stability of the team and continuing to work in accordance with the club’s sports vision, and benefiting from his experience and competence within the club’s technical system.”
The Tangier team had signed the Spanish coach, who had previously supervised the technical crossbar for teams such as Deportivo La Coruna, Las Palmas, Rayo Vallecano and West Bromwich, at the beginning of last December, in a contract extending until the end of 2028, considering that he is “one of the most prominent Spanish coaches and has accumulated extensive experience that exceeds 600 matches at the highest levels.”
The Spanish coach, along with Ittihad Tangier, played 6 matches in the national professional football championship “INOI” for the first division, during which he achieved one win, two draws and three defeats.
After the matches of the fifteenth round of the national championship were held, Ittihad Tangier Club is currently ranked twelfth with 13 points.
