Exciting refereeing decisions in round 16 ignite tension as the elite referees meet
Intense discussions erupted during the meeting held by the National Directorate of Arbitration, yesterday evening, Monday, via visual analogue technology, in the presence of the first elite referees, against the backdrop of the controversy that accompanied a number of arbitration cases related to the matches of the 16th round of the professional tournament.
According to an arbitration source who spoke to Hesport, the meeting witnessed noticeable tension in some of its periods, especially during the discussion of arbitration decisions that sparked a lot of controversy, as a group of shots that required the intervention of the video assistant technology (VAR) were discussed in detail.
The same source explained that an intervention by the Frenchman Freddy Futrelle, who is responsible for developing the “VAR” technique, intensified the atmosphere, after he directly criticized one of the referees in a manner that a number of attendees considered exaggerated, using descriptions that were met with an angry reaction from the referee concerned with those arbitration cases, which increased the tension within the meeting.
The same spokesman added that this incident contributed to creating a state of tension within the meeting, as a number of referees expressed their discomfort with the way the French official was dealing, considering that his method of evaluation and communication did not take into account the psychological and professional aspects of the referees.
The source concluded his speech by emphasizing that such meetings, despite their importance in evaluating arbitration performance, at the same time reveal communication and organizational challenges within the system, which requires reconsidering the methods of work, in a way that ensures the development of the level of national arbitration in a sound professional atmosphere.
